Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Ligue 1 striker Elye Wahi. The Blues have reignited their interest in the french striker.
Who is Elye Wahi?
Elye Wahi is a striker who has recently played for RC Lens in Ligue 1. There he made 27 appearances. and scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists for the French side. He has become the second teenage player to score 20 goals in Ligue 1. This is a massive achievement for any player.
In 2023, he was close to a Chelsea move but at the last moment the deal collapsed. After this failed transfer, the Blues opted for Villareal striker Nicolas Jackson. At that time, Eintracht Frankfurt were also interested in him. Frankfurt saw him as a replacement of Randall Kolo Muani.
Chelsea have reignited their interest in Elye Wahi. Enzo Maresca is looking to bring in the talented French player at Stamford bridge. He can certainly be a good striking partner for Nicolas Jackson
Why do Chelsea want another striker?
Last season Chelsea depended on Nicolas Jackson. He had no backup option. On top of that the Blues loaned out Armando Broja to Fulham. So, Jackson had no competition for the number nine spot. That is why he didn’t feel the pressure after having a bad game.
In this season the Blues want to things in a different way. They are exploring all the available attackers in the transfer market. Players like Elye Wahi, Oshimhen, Benjamin Sesko are being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Multiple sources are claiming that Enzo Maresca is not satisfied with the strikers he has at Chelsea squad. He wants more reinforcement in the number nine position. The addition of Marc Guiu has certainly bolster the Chelsea attack. If Todd Boehly can pull of the signing of Elye Wahi, Chelsea will certainly be the contender for 2024-2025 Premier League title.
Possibility of the transfer
According to football.london will have a price tag between €33m to €47m. This is a valuation which Chelsea can match. So, there is a possibility that the Blues will sign him. For now, Victor Oshimhen is the first priority for Chelsea. Previously, the Blues have failed to sign him but this time Paul Wintansley and his group is serious about the French striker.
There are some rumors about a potential swap deal between Romelu Lukaku and Victor Oshimhen. In this deal Lukaku will join Antonio Conte’s Napoli and Oshimhen will join Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea. If this deal gets placed, Chelsea will not chase Elye Wahi. At this moment, Elye Wahi is an alternative of Oshimhen.
