Chelsea lost some high-profile players who left the club either on loan or on a permanent basis in the summer including Romelu Lukaku, Raheen Sterling, and Conor Gallagher. The Blues signed 12 new players in the summer transfer window which led to the offloading of some of the high-profile players from the Chelsea squad. However, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, there was another high-profile player who was on the verge of leaving Chelsea in the summer transfer window and he is none other than, their star forward, Noni Madueke.
Noni Madueke joined the Blues in the January transfer window in 2023 from PSV on a seven-year contract for a transfer fee of around £30m. Since Bohley and co. took ownership of the Chelsea football club in 2022, the club has mainly focused on bringing some of the best young talents rather than spending on high-profile players. Madueke is also involved in the same project as he joined the Blues at the age of 21 last season.
In his first season with Chelsea, Madueke made 12 appearances for Chelsea under the then-Chelsea manager Frank Lampard. At the start of the last season, Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as the new Chelsea manager. Under Pochettino, Noni Madueke made 34 appearances for the club in all competitions, bagged 8 goals, and provided 3 assists. However, Madueke was especially used as a substitute player by Pochettinho rather than a starter.
The Blues were on the verge of selling Noni Madueke
Chelsea were planning to sell Noni Madueke in the summer transfer window after his average performance in the last season. However, things have changed. Chelsea signed former Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca, as their new manager after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. This is the third manager that Noni Madueke has played under during his time at Chelsea. But looks like under Enzo Maresca’s game-plan started clicking for Madueke.
Madueke featured all the games for Chelsea in the pre-season. The 22-year-old scored three goals and registered one assist in the pre-season for the Blues. Madueke was able to keep his brilliant form intact for the new season.
He scored a hat-trick against Wolves in the 6-2 win for Chelsea. Madueke has scored four goals this season in his six appearances for the Blues in all competitions. Despite the advent of players like Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, and many more, Enzo Maresca still goes with Noni Madueke because of his brilliant form.
Fans might be shocked to know that at one point in the summer transfer window, Chelsea wanted to sell Noni Madueke. As per the news published by Chelseanews, Fabrizio Romano recently revealed on his YouTube channel that the Blues were about to sell the 22-year-old in the summer. Just after one and a half seasons at Stamford Bridge, the club was considering selling him. However, there is no chance that Chelsea are going to sell Madueke now after his recent performances. Madueke has more than five years left in his contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2030.
