The Blues’ decision to sell Callum Hudson-Odoi was shocking business. now it could cost millions to the club.
Exit of Callum Hudson-Odoi wasn’t a good deal
Since Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly took over their positions at Chelsea, some their decisions haven’t played as expected. Some of them are marked as ‘very bad’ decisions by the fans.
Currently, some of them may feel that the signing of Robert Sanchez is one of them. The goalkeeper has made multiple errors in some big games. The fans have been criticizing him a lot this season.
The club is also been facing disapproval from fans for the signing of Nicolas Jackson lately. They want a more lethal striker than him. He started this campaign well but hasn’t been able to carry the similar form. In his last nine games, he has just scored once.
Callum’s move to Nottingham Forest was also one of the decisions. This has gone under the radar a bit.
Callum Hudson-Odoi to Forest: Good or Bad decision?
The Blues are expecting to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Man Utd. The amount they might offer will be around £60 million. They are willing to make this deal before the transfer window closes.
Garnacho is a good talent and with a lot of potential. Although, the club’s fans might have a mix reaction to the move. He could be a good addition to the current group.
They had Hudson-Odoi with them but they let him join Nottingham Forest for less than £5 million. His contract was coming to a close. But now Chelsea could go and spend around £60 million for Garnacho. The fact that this may happen makes it look like a really poor deal.
Callum scored more goals than the Man Utd star last season in the Premier League. The blues striker netted 8 goals in 29 games and Garnacho scored 7 goals in 36 matches. Although, the Argentine had four assists to that of Callum’s 1 last campaign.
Shay Given had his say on Hudson-Odoi and Nuno Tavares after one of the games in the last season. Speaking on BBC Match of the day, he said: ” They were super fast on the left side. Tavares is a really offensive full-back and he’s got this partnership going with Callum, who looks like he’s really enjoying his football at the moment. He’s back to where Chelsea fans think he should be.”
Chelsea could lose the Champions League spot to Forest
As of now, they are sixth in the Premier League table. At one point they were in second place this season. Nottingham are currently in third place. If the Tricky Trees try to keep themselves ahead in the table, the West London club could miss out on Champions League.
The 24-years-old winger has helped them get to where they are now. He had his few goal contributions this season. He also had his moment at Anfield, when he scored the winner against Liverpool in September last year.
The London side are in need of the Champions League spot for the prize money. They want a good sponsorship deal as well. In what could be the case, their former player and Forest could stop them from achieving those goals.
During the final week of the January transfer window, investing in a striker should be on top of their list.
Benjamin Sesko has been on their list for quite a while. They are tracking his stance in Germany. He could be the one they probably make a move for.
On ConnCFC’s X Space, Ben Jacobs claimed that this deal could take place. It may happen this month or at in the summer this year.
Author’s Opinion
Now the Blues’ supporters must be thinking about Hudson-Odoi’s exit from the club. But it’s too late to change that. The forward has been in a good form.
Will there be new striker signings in this transfer window by them? It would really be difficult to see another big name joining them and not coming up as per expectations.
