Chelsea‘s new signing Conor Gallagher have managed to make his place in the England World Cup squad. Many were surprised to his name in the 26-man squad named by Gareth Southgate earlier this week. Gallagher will travel with the England squad to Qatar hoping to perform well for his country.

Paul Merson on Chelsea’s Gallagher’s selection in the World Cup squad

Paul Merson is properly delighted to see the Chelsea attacking midfielder being selected. He believed that many had already written him off as being a flop. He believes that this World Cup will be the proper place for the Chelsea player to show his true potential.

“I’m so pleased for both James Maddison and Conor Gallagher for making England’s World Cup squad. I did not see the latter’s inclusion coming – nobody gave him a chance after a difficult season with Chelsea,”

Paul Merson wrote in the Daily Star.

“You had begun to wonder whether he’d shot himself in the foot returning to Stamford Bridge after such a positive loan spell with Crystal Palace but it’s now paid dividends.”

The writer further added.

Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Gallagher had a successful season on loan for Crystal Palace. This would be Gallagher’s debut season for his boyhood club Chelsea. He is still adjusting to being the first team to Chelsea. Hopefully, Chelsea will benefit from the boost of confidence that Gallagher will get after the World Cup.
