Christmas celebrations ruined for Man United

Christmas came early for Ruben Amorim’s Man United as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth. The Red Devils were also beaten by the same margin against the same opposition last season. Similar defensive mistakes let them down yet again. Not the way United would’ve liked to celebrate Christmas.

However, Christmas came early for the Cherries’. They’ve turned Old Trafford their own play ground. Hujsen’s goal from a set piece situation early on set the stage for them. It was all over when Kluivert calmly tucked in the penalty. Semenyo’s brilliant finished sealed a fantastic win. This win has pushed them up to the fifth spot in the table.

Man United Goalkeeper and Defence:

Andre Onana (3.5/10):

Yet another average performance from the Man United keeper. Slow judgement and poor handling let him down again. Not the performance that’ll cement his future at the club.

Lisandro Martinez (6/10):

One of the players who was playing for the badge. He was brilliant on the ball and made the most clearances for United. Let down by his teammates.

Harry Maguire (5/10):

Slow while defending on several occasions. Needs to improve his overall play by a huge margin.

Noussair Mazraoui (4/10):

Playing as a makeshift centre-back, he didn’t adjust to his role. He succumbed to the pressure and conceded a silly penalty. A day to forget for the Moroccan.

Midfield and Forwards:

Tyrell Malacia (4.5/10):

The Dutchman failed to influence the game and was hooked at half time. He cannot catch a break at the moment.

Kobbie Mainoo (6.5/10):

Played for the badge and was confident in his play. Completed the most dribbles in the game as per Fotmob.

Manuel Ugarte (5/10):

Another poor outing from the youngster. Wasteful in possession and poor defensively had him hooked early on.

Diogo Dalot (5.5/10):

He was pocketed by the opposition and failed to impose a threat from the wing. Average performance from the Portuguese international.

Bruno Fernandes (7/10):

Tried his level best and gave everything to earn a point for Man United. Came very close to scoring long range goal but didn’t get any fruit of his labour.

Amad Diallo (6.5/10):

His presence was one of the sparks in Man United. He looked confident in every touch and was playing for the badge. Teammates let him down.

Joshua Zirkzee (4/10):

Poor in the holdup play and wasteful in front of goal. His poor marking also led to Man United conceding the first goal. A day to forget for the youngster.

Substitutes:

Leny Yoro (4.5/10):

Replaced Malacia at half time but failed to make any offensive threat. Beaten in duels on several occasions. No improvement from the Tottenham game.

Rasmus Hรธjlund (5.5/10):

Didn’t get much service in the box. Could’ve dropped down more to link up with the midfield.

Alejandro Garnacho (6/10):

Was energetic and tried to make things happen. However, the Bournemouth defence read his game quite easily.

Author’s Opinion:

I feel Man United shot themselves on their foot with those missed chances. Silly errors at the back costed them the game yet again. It seems as if conceding from set-piece situations has become a habit for the Red Devils. The manager needs to work on this issue on an urgent basis.

Players like Amad, Bruno, Hรธjlund are constantly being let down by the individual mistakes. Goalkeeper Andre Onana has made it a habit to concede from silly mistakes. Plenty of improvement needed if they want to turn around this season. They’re in no better situation than their rivals Man City.
