The Champions League draw is around the corner and Chelsea will be hoping to win the trophy for the third time.
Chelsea will soon come to know who they will face in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The draw will take on Friday for the quarter-finals and semi-finals rounds. Winning the trophy will be important for manager Graham Potter, who looks to make an impact at Stanford Bridge. The Blues will like to win the trophy for the third time in their history.
Potter’s side came back from a one-goal deficit against Borrusia Dortmund in the second leg tie of the Round of 16 stages. But all eyes will be on whom they face in the next round and they will like to avoid some big names.
Former Arsenal man Paul Merson believes that two teams Chelsea have to be worried about in quarters. He said:-
“If the Champions League quarter-final draw goes their way, bar Man City and Bayern Munich, I don’t think too many teams will want to play Chelsea. If they don’t meet those two then I think they’ll get through to the semi-finals.”
Manchester City and Bayern Munich are clear favorites and have the strongest teams in the papers.
Joe Cole agreed with Merson’s assessment after the 2-0 last-16, second-leg win over Dortmund, he stated:-
“Enjoy it, enjoy it. Little patterns of play were starting to work. Kai Havertz coming into the game, he was absolutely outstanding tonight. Forget what it took to retake that penalty. You won’t want to be playing Chelsea in the next couple of weeks.”
RIO FERDINAND HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW ABOUT CHELSEA’S CURRENT MOMENTUM
Former Man United legend Rio Ferdinand is on the side of cautious optimism and believes that the Blues are not favorites, but confidence is growing with time. He told BT Sport:-
“I wouldn’t put them anywhere near being favourites, no disrespect, just because of the form and where other teams are in comparison. The difference this result can make for confidence right now is great, but you have to take it game by game. You can’t look any further than this weekend.”
