Conor Gallagher have been criticized by pundits for his second-half performance in the FA Cup tie. BBC Pundits have criticized Conor Gallagher for his performance. Chelsea lost the match 4-0 to a dominant Manchester City team. Hence Chelsea were knocked out of the competition after their display of underwhelming performance. City was not even in their best form to beat Graham Potter‘s side. Chelsea was knocked out of the 1st stage for the first time in 25 years. Graham Potter had selected both young and experienced players in the team to start the game. However, being 3 goals down before the break was surely a moral letdown for all of them. Potter had made some changes after the break in some vital positions. Conor Gallagher was one such substitute. Gallagher, therefore, came on as a right-back.
Conor Gallagher was criticized for his performance
BBC Pundit Jermaine Jenas have criticized Conor Gallagher quite heavily. Furthermore, Jenas criticized the Englishman for his lack of awareness in the defense. After a defensive error made by the youngster, his defensive awareness was then questioned by the Pundit. Jenas commented,
“Conor Gallagher hasn’t got a clue where he is here. He’s been told to come out in almost like a right wing back position but on that occasion where the ball gets played inside him he doesn’t have a clue where Gomez was.”
Gallagher is currently struggling to get more minutes with the Blues. His failing to impress the Blues might make things worse for him. Despite Chelsea’s suffering to co-ordinate the midfield, Gallagher is still seen as a substitute player and not a starter. This might be the resurgence of Denis Zakaria.
Denis Zakaria looks undroppable at the moment in the Chelsea team. He is at the heart of the Chelsea midfield at the moment. With Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez deal failing this January, Potter might look to sign new midfielders. He might also be forced to make the most of a player to get the best possible results at the end of the campaign. He will have to use every player to the best of his ability no matter what.
