Cristiano Ronaldo is on the helm of one of the most high-profile transfer sagas of the window. He has told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club to play Champions League football. The decision to leave must be further cemented on his mind after United’s two consecutive defeats in the Premier League. Now as the deadline of the transfer window approaches, Ronaldo is running out of options. However, his old club Sporting is still open to the transfer of Ronaldo. Sporting can offer Champions League game time to the player, something that United can’t.

European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, PSG, and Real Madrid have all rejected the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this season. According to the Independent, a move to Sporting is a definite and serious possibility for the player. Sporting want to sign the player on a free transfer this season. Moreover, United are also open to letting the player depart this season. Now, severe internal debates are going on inside the club regarding Ronaldo.

Many people inside the club seem to have the view that offloading Ronaldo is the first step to start the rebuild of United. However, the upper hierarchy has been completely resistant to the idea of the player’s departure. Not only because of Ronaldo’s sporting ability but also because of his commercial value.

Ten Hag ready to let Ronaldo depart

During the pre-season, Ten Hag had expressed his excitement to work with Ronaldo. He was even advocating for the club to keep the player at all costs. However, now a report from the Athletic is claiming that the player is exasperated with Ten Hag’s high-pressing tactics. United now have an unhappy star forward and no backup for the forward. The Red Devils are now scrambling to find replacements for Ronaldo before the transfer window closes.
