Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave Manchester United in January after his shocking interview with Piers Morgan but a return to Sporting Lisbon is off the card.
Ronaldo faces disappointment in his high hopes of leaving United as Sporting Lisbon opposes his signing. The Portuguese international is desperate to leave Manchester United following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. He accused United of betrayal and forced him out of the club while talking in an interview. United may cancel the superstar’s contract if they are advised that Ronaldo’s behavior is a breach of discipline.
The 37-years old is hoping to make an exit in the January transfer window but it’s getting difficult as big clubs are backing off. Paris Saint- Germain with Bayern Munich ruled themselves out of the race to sign him.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes contacted many clubs during the summer transfer window in a desperate attempt to find a new club but was unsuccessful.
Ronaldo linked with Sporting Club Portugal
Ronaldo has now been linked with his former club Sporting club where he graduated as a teenager before joining Old Trafford. Ronaldo’s family also supports the giants from Lisbon but a return is unlikely because of financial difficulties.
A return to his former club is almost ruled out as Sporting president Varandas has spoken on the matter. While talking to RTP3 he said:
“He will always be the reference of Sporting’s academy and the best Portuguese player ever. Now, I’m not going to make noise.”
He was then asked if manager Amorim has asked for the return of Ronaldo, and he then replied:
“Of course not. It was never even a topic nor was it on the table. There was never a conversation with me, with (sporting director) Hugo Viana or (manager) Ruben Amorim. This topic never existed. Although I know it sells very well in the press.”
“It is important to preserve the historic and unique legacy that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave in world sport, whether you like it or not.
“I see him as the best Portuguese footballer of all time, one of the best in the history of world football and he will always be the flag of Sporting’s academy. Our academy has been named after him, it is a source of pride for all Sporting supporters to have trained the best Portuguese player of all time.
