Darren Bent delivers an unsettling verdict on the Chelsea star

In a recent interview, Football pundit Darren Bent was very critical of Chelsea star Mason Mount’s recent form and performances.

Mason Mount has been ever-present in Chelsea and England’s squads. The England international has made a total of 42 appearances across all competitions this term for the blues. In this time he has recorded an impressive eight goals and 12 assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)

While the young star still has an impressive goal return this term. Mount is still some way off his form last term. He has been very inconsistent across games this term. Reports earlier this term even suggested that the attacking midfielder was considering his future at the club after he saw a decline in his game time under Thomas Tuchel.

But while Mason Mount has managed to cement his place in the starting lineup yet again. But the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League once again highlighted Mason Mount’s inconsistency this term. Edouard Mendy’s howler in the game took all the headlines. While Romelu Lukaku was also heavily criticized. But Mason Mount has not escaped criticism quite so quickly.

Talking to talkSPORT about Mason Mount and Chelsea’s recent performances, football pundit Darren Bent said:

“I feel like, at the minute, it’s a lot of huff and puff, but not really a lot more going on,” “When you start looking for England, at one stage he was a nailed-on starter for Gareth [Southgate]. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.”

Talking during his post-match interview after the 3-1 loss against Real Madrid, Mason Mount said:

“It was a very tough loss. It has been two tough losses in a row, and we need to pick ourselves up. The philosophy of Chelsea is that we’re always underdogs and we can climb the mountain that seems impossible at times. That is what we have to do now […]”

“This is football, anything is possible. We have to give it everything. We know how tough it will be. We need to regroup, attacking every game 100 per cent. Every game is a final now. We have a massive mountain to climb but we are Chelsea and if there is a team that can do it, it is us. We will give it everything as we have that hunger and desire to really accomplish something.”
