Hoffenheim’s left-back David Raum is on Erik Ten Hag’s radar this season, according to Sky Germany. Raum had an exceptional 2021/22 season, scoring 2 and assisting 11 goals. His superb performances helped him to win the Bundesliga’s Newcomer of the Year award.
Hoffenheim has set a price tag of around €40 million (£36.3m) on Raum. This is certainly a fair price for someone who has proven his quality on a big stage. But it has been reported that Raum himself is not keen on a move at this point in time. Raum aspires to play in Europe with Hoffenheim, which has not been the case so far.
Naturally, I would have liked to have played on the international stage with Hoffenheim. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. That continues to be a dream for me.”
Hoffenheim finished 9th last season and missed out on European places by 6 points. It must have been a disappointment for Raum to be so close to his “dream”. Manchester United too had a disappointing season, but they earned qualification to the UEFA Europa League.
Ten Hag may rely on the highly regarded German’s goals in any prospective discussions to ultimately get his first deal as United manager over the finish line.
Where Does Raum Fit At United?
Manchester United will be looking for a left-back this season.
After a brilliant 2020/21 season, Luke Shaw seemed to be top of the world. However, he could not meet the high standard he set for this campaign. The England international missed 18 games due to injuries overall.
Alex Telles was given a run in the team, but he could not capitalize on the opportunity either.
As a consequence, Ten Hag may be looking for a new fullback. David Raum is a potential one on his list. The German international topped the charts in the crosses department, which may suit United given Cristiano Ronaldo’s ariel prowess.
Regarding his future, Raum appears unfazed. Given that his contract with Hoffenheim expires in 2026, it makes sense. However, it does have a release clause that kicks in after the following season.
The anticipation among United supporters is much greater, and understandably so, to see Raum enter the building and begin Ten Hag’s revolution.
