De Bruyne Who? Haaland What? Guardiola Drops Bombshell – Phil Foden Reigns Supreme

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City are currently soaring in the seventh heaven in the Premier League. Now, Pep Guardiola claims that Phil Foden is the best player in the league over Haaland or De Bruyne.

The Cityzens are on an unbeaten run of 19 games across all competitions since December last year. Their most recent venture was against their city rivals Manchester United. Although a goal from Marcus Rashford was rising questions on the hosts, their second half performance washed out all the criticism. An inspirational brace from Foden was enough for Etihad to clinch the win. Guardiola’s men won 3-1 with a goal from Haaland as well in the dying minutes.

Pep Guardiola heaps praise on Phil Foden

The 23-year-old playmaker operating on both wings at various stages in the contest scored twice. Moreover, he has been an inspiration for the players at times as well throughout the season. On quizzing after the game about the Englishman being the best in the Premier League, Pep replied,

“He is right now, this season, yes. He has been the best, so far. Always I had the feeling he could score goals, in the training sessions, but now he is winning games. He has incredible work ethic, it doesn’t matter the position he doesn’t complain. But now he wins games.

When I arrived he was 17 and he had it. He lives to play football. He loves it. The feeling he is aggressive to score, that’s why he is becoming a really important player for us and the national team.”

Foden has taken his count to 28 goal contributions this season so far with 18 goals and 10 assists. He is clearly becoming prolific for the treble-winners right now. They will be marching to Merseyside in probably a title-decider clash against Liverpool on Sunday. Lest they win, they should go two points clear off the top from the Reds.
