Diego Costa to Arsenal?

Arsenal are in need of a striker after injury to Kai Havertz and Diego Costa could be their potential solution.

Diego Costa is a free agent

Diego Costa has previously shared his thoughts on playing again in the Premier League. With the winter transfer window now closed, the Spanish striker could be an option for several English top-flight clubs. Some of the top sides are looking to add firepower to their attacking lines.

The 36-year-old spent four and a half years at the Stamford Bridge with Chelsea. His contract at Gremio was valid till January. That makes him available as a free agent. In 2024, he made 26 appearances for the Brazilian club across all competitions. In that period, he scored eight goals and gave five assists.

However, the forward will not be as lethal as he once was. But he’s the well known player available on the free agent market.

Arsenal are without any senior striker following hamstring injury to Kai Havertz.

Diego Costa willing to play in the Premier League

The Spain international has previously said that the he will be interested for a return to England. However, he has ruled out the chances of playing at the Stamford Bridge with the Blues. That means other Premier League sides, like Arsenal can try to make this move happen.

Costa decided on not playing for Chelsea again. He had some issues with the club’s officials when he was at the Stamford Bridge.

He said (via Federacao Sergipana de Futebol): “My destination is already made. I must return to Atletico Madrid.”

As per Evening Standard, he said: “It turns out that there is the impasse that Chelsea does not want to release me. But I believe that this situation will be resolved now on my return to Spain.”

Speaking to the MailOnline, he said: “In January, things happened with the coach. I was on the brink of renewing my contract and they put the breaks on it. I suspect the manager was behind it. He asked for that to happen.

“His ideas are very fixed and clear. I have seen the sort of person he is. He has his own opinion and that will not change. I respect him as a great coach. He has done a good job and I can see that, but as a person, no. He is not a coach who is very close with his players and he doesn’t possess charisma.”

Costa thinks he was wrong on joining Chelsea

The Spanish forward said that he shouldn’t have made this decision. Speaking to Marca (Spanish Outlet) and as per Metro, he said: “It was a very bad moment, but it wasn’t my fault.

“People said things, but time puts everything in its place. Look where the coach is, look at Conte. I was wrong going to Chelsea, because of their way of dealing with things. Cholo (Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone) is a direct coach. And when he doesn’t love you, it’s clear and he shows it.

“At Chelsea it was the opposite. I had the option of returning to Atletico and when Chelsea told me to go back to training with the reserves, I was clear that I was going back to Atletico, even though there were other offers.”

Author’s Opinion

Arsenal are in a very difficult place right now. Without Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and now Kai Havertz, they are up for a huge task for the remaining part of the campaign.

Diego Costa will not be as clinical as before, but he might give the Gunners some big presence in the attacking department.
