Dinesh Karthik became the oldest player at 37 to hit a half-century in T20Is.
Karthik came into the squad on the back of his excellent IPL 2022 performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He scored 330 runs in the tournament with a strike rate of 183.3 from which 251 runs came in the death overs.
India head coach Rahul Dravid said that he is happy with the way Karthik performed in the Rajkot T20I.
He also added that this opens Karthik’s way for selection in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup as well.
Dravid also said that Karthik is working very hard for the past two-three years on his game.
Karthik came in to bat when India were 81 for 4 in the 13th over.
He then smashed the ball to all parts of the ground off bowlers like Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius.
India’s score went from 96 for 4 to 140 for 4 in just a matter of 3 overs.
Dravid was also happy with the way both Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik played in tandem to take India to a defendable score in the 4th T20I against South Africa.
India will be playing a lot of T20Is in the run-down to the T20 World Cup so they need to pick a solid squad for the same.
Dravid certainly feels that Karthik is banging on the door of the selectors for his selection in the marquee event.
