Dravid wants more grit and determination from the Test team

India head coach Rahul Dravid in the post-match interview said that India’s performance was rather poor with both ball and bat.

He didn’t make any excuses and talked directly about what led to India’s loss to England in the 5th Test.

Many said that the exclusion of Ashwin was a big setback for India.

For his response, Dravid said that there was no necessity to play two spinners on a track where there was enough covering of grass.

Thus he felt that pacers would get more out of the pitch but that didn’t happen.

Dravid also felt that because of the sunless weather, the pitch didn’t crack up much and retained its original shape throughout the Test match.

He also said that England batted and bowled really well which was the result that India’s estimated target of 400-plus was pushed down to under 400.

England successfully chased down a target of 378 just half an hour before lunch on Day 5.

India could not defend the target and win the Pataudi Trophy 3-1.

If we look at previous Tests, India has faced the problem of playing well in the fourth innings.

Against South Africa, India could not defend 240 and 212 in the second and third Tests.

But, they had successfully defended 305 in the first one.

Dravid was quite disappointed with this and said that they just lost the opportunities when it mattered the most.

England has revamped themselves up pretty well under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes in Tests.

Similarly, India has also undergone a change in Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid but was not able to win the series.

Their only other loss was to South Africa earlier this year.
