Former England skipper Wayne Rooney heaps a lot of praise for former striker Didier Drogba. The African, a £24m signing way back in 2004, went on to become one of the very best strikers to ever do it in the Premier League.

The Ivorian was the real game changer for Chelsea back in his days in the outfit. The marksman guided the Blues to multiple Premier League championships and a Champions League trophy in 2012 against Bayern Munich. He scored a crucial equaliser in the dying minutes in the final and eventually an even more important penalty in the shootout.

Wayne Rooney believes the legacy of Didier Drogba is unmatched

Speaking to the Premier League’s official YouTube channel about Drogba, former Man United star Wayne Rooney has said that if Drogba was around today, he’d be worth a fortune. Tye Englishman had a lot words for the strikers of his generation but Drogba was something different. He said,

“He was a nightmare for defenders. When you talk about number nines now and you look at Haaland, probably the best two is Haaland and Kane, or the only two. They’re so difficult to find now and I think Drogba is the perfect number nine. He had pace, power, could score with both feet, could head it, free-kicks. If Drogba was around now he’d be worth a lot of money.”

The Ivorian’s ability and longevity with the club was insane. Moreover, his knack of scoring in huge games means he’ll go down in history as one of the best to ever do it in England. As Rooney said, there are only a handful of players who can do what Didier achieved throughout his career. If he was present around today, it would have been a nightmare for the oppositions.
