However, after Roger Federer’s final professional tennis match, Rafael Nadal and Federer were photographed shaking hands.

As “a subtle thank you” for the times they spent together playing the sport.

The 24-year tennis career of the legendary Spanish player at the Laver Cup on Friday night inevitably affected the 41-year-old.

Due to his supremacy in the 2000s, Federer is frequently regarded as the best tennis player of all time.

His career has largely been spent competing against Nadal and Novak Djokovic, with the trio frequently facing off.

at the conclusion of major competitions, sharing 63 Grand Slams.

Although there has been tremendous competition on the court, there is great respect and close camaraderie outside of the sport,

especially when it comes to Federer and Nadal.

Since the 2008 Wimbledon final, widely regarded as the greatest tennis match of all time, the pair have been inseparable.

The fact that his final event ever coincided with his close friend was consequently very emotional.

Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe defeated the duo in a champions tiebreak, but it wasn’t enough.

Immediately following the match, Federer and Nadal both broke down in tears,

with a photo of the pair sobbing and holding hands turning into one of tennis history’s most iconic images.

The Swiss superstar later detailed the incident in an interview with the New Times.

Roger Federer: “secret thank you”

He claimed it was a “secret thank you” to his longtime employee, despite forgetting, that the cameras were focused on him.

“It was a short moment,”

he explained.

“At one point, I was sobbing so hard, that I don’t know everything was going through my mind with how happy I am to actually experience this moment right there with everybody.

“I think that’s what was so beautiful about just sitting there, taking it all in while the music was playing, and the focus was maybe more on her [the singer Ellie Goulding].

You almost forgot that you’re still being taken pictures of. I guess at one point, just because obviously I couldn’t speak and the music was there, I guess I just touched him, and I guess it’s maybe a secret thank you.”

Never miss

Federer has also said that because the incident meant so much to him, he would like to receive the photos of it.

“I don’t know what it was, but for me, that’s maybe what it was and how it felt and some pictures came out of it,”

he stated.

“Different ones. Not just that one but other ones, too, that were just completely crazy, you know, so with different angles, and I hope to get those because they mean a lot to me.”
