Early Substitution of Erling Haaland in the last match of Manchester City denies a chance to break a record. Manchester City won their last match in UEFA Champions League against RB Leipzig 7-0. The aggregate score was 8-1. The game was played on Wednesday, March 15.

Questions on Early Substitution

Erling Halaand was substituted when the match still had 27 minutes to play. He obviously was not happy about his substitution because he wanted to score more.

He wanted to score more and achieve his double hat trick and set up a new record of scoring 6 goals in a single match of the UEFA Champions League. However, when Pep Guardiola called him back there was no option left for him.

City Career so far

The  Norwegian professional footballer who plays as a striker has become the third player to score 5 goals in a single UEFA Champions League match. It was earlier achieved by Lionel Messi in 2012 against Bayer Leverkusen and Luiz Adriano in 2014 against BATE.

Haaland has been a nuisance for the defence line of his opponents. He has scored 39 goals in just 36 matches in all competitions. He has also bagged 5 assists in the Premier League. Haaland has already scored 5 hat tricks in his incredible debut season at City.

Guardiola’s answers to the questions

Guardiola was asked whether he did the substitution in order to save Lionel Messi’s record. In this context, he said, that he was not aware of any records when performing the substitution.

He also mentioned that if he achieves such milestones at the age of 22 or 23, his life will be boring, and won’t have anything to achieve in the future. That’s why I made the substitution.

Conclusion

Erling Haaland is only 22 years old. With so much time in his hand to play football, it will be very exciting to see what he achieves in his career with such goal-scoring attributes.
