Edson Alvarez: Chelsea want the midfielder from West Ham

Chelsea are ready to sign Edson Alvarez from West Ham Utd in the coming transfer market.

Edson Alvarez to join Chelsea very soon?

West Ham Uniteds Alvarez could join Chelsea in the next transfer window. They are looking to add more options in their midfield.

He left Ajax and joined the Hammers for ยฃ34 million in 2023. And while he has been a decent performer for them, his discipline has proven to be a problem. The 27-year-old has already picked up 23 bookings and two reds in 68 games.

There have already been some claims that Graham Potter may move to sell the midfielder. It now potentially looks like he might be on his way to a shock move across London.

At the London Stadium, the 27-year-old is a divisive figure. Although, there are fans who adore him and fans who can’t stand him. Now, Edson could potentially move to West London from East London.

As reported by Mexican outlet Nacion Futbol, the Blues manager Enzo Maresca wants to bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge this summer. It is reported that the head coach wants to increase competition for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. He wants more depth in that position.

Why Chelsea can sign Alvarez before the window open

The transfer window opens for teams in England on June 12th. Chelsea can sign the 27-years-old before then. There is going to be another transfer window this summer. Because FIFA has established a new time frame meant to help those clubs that are involved in the Club World Cup.

This window will take place from June 1-10. It has been speculated by a number of people that the west London club could sign the Mexican from West Ham during that time frame. That could make him eligible to play for the Blues in the Club World Cup in the USA.

The owners of West Ham could receive a decent offer from Maresca’s side to sell the midfielder. And if it is around ยฃ40M or greater, they might consider selling him.
