Chelsea to have a new captain? Enzo Maresca questions Reece James’ leadership

Enzo Maresca is working his way towards transforming Chelsea. The new manager has done a great job with the Blues so far. He had many new players to deal with. At the same time the confidence in the dressing room was low upon his arrival. But things have begun to change now. The Blues may currently sit 7th on the Premier League table. Although their performances have been a joy to watch. Their latest win against Panathinaikos says it all. Chelsea’s captain made a return from injury quite recently. Although, the manager was not impressed with Reece James and prefers Levi Colwill. The 24-year-old was good on the field. But he was not convincing enough as a captain.

Enzo Maresca warns Reece James

The 24-year-old picked up the arm band after Azpilicueta left the club. He was doing good too. But injuries have caused him a lot of problems. Ben Chilwell was the vice-captain. Although, Enzo Maresca does not want him in the squad. So we saw seen Enzo Fernandez captaining in his absence. But now even the midfielder has lost his place in the lineup. Romeo Lavia is starting in his place.

Who could be the new captain?

As per teamtalk, the Italian manager is considering two alternatives for captaincy. First and foremost is Levi Colwill. Second is Tosin Adarabioyo. Already, the Blues have a very inexperienced and young squad. So proper guidance is the key to success for them. A good leader and a captain is more than necessary for the Blues. Enzo Maresca realizes the same. Hence, motivating Reece James and appreciating Levi Colwill was a great move by the manager. By the looks of it, Chelsea are likely to succeed this season. Hopefully, they will be able to qualify for the UCL by finisihing top of the league table and win the UECL this campaign.
