Former England captain, Eoin Morgan opens up on his immediate future cricket plans. Eoin Morgan led London spirits, lost the eliminator of The Hundred on Friday. Morgan was ousted on a golden duck by Paul Walter and failed to carry his team through the finish line against Manchester Originals.

Morgan has had a tough year. Earlier this year, he relinquished his captaincy duties and announced retirement from international cricket. Ever since he has been playing club cricket and working as a commentator for Sky Sports. He even failed to attract IPL bidders for a contract this year despite being a successful former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. His recent form slump is not making things any easier for him.

Uncertainty looms over his future in cricket

London Spirits skipper was in for a chat at the post-match presentation after the match. Morgan openly spoke about his future plan post The Hundred exit. When asked whether he will feature in the next edition of The Hundred tournament, he replied saying,

“I am not sure about the tournament next year which is a long way away “

He further elaborated and gave an incite on his post-retirement life and said,

“I have enjoyed retirement. It has been magnificent. Loved the pod, and loved spending more time at home with my family. Who knows next year”

Moreover, former England cricketer, Kevin Pietersen joked and passed a funny comment on Morgan’s statement. He laughed and said he would love to watch Morgan in the pod rather than playing cricket. He was quoted saying,

“I think he’s answered the question about next year. He’s coming to join us in the pod, he’d rather be in the pod than win a game of cricket.”

Tough road ahead for Morgan

Given his recent form, the former Englishman has failed to obtain contracts for various club tournaments and is struggling to stamp his mark and make his presence felt. He has been on a downward spiral ever since the commencement of the ICC World Cup, 2019. Coming back to his career, Morgan has been one of the most successful captains for his side.

Under his leadership, England made history and won its first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019. He has been a white ball superstar for England. Eoin donned the England jersey in 248 ODI matches in which he scored a grand total of 7701 runs with an average of almost 40. He even had a successful T20 career in which he made a total of 2458 runs in 115 matches and has a strike rate of 136.

While his test career never really took off, he went on to become a perfect white ball material. What Morgan decides for his future is completely in his hands but the road ahead is extremely tough for him and the future certainly looks bleak at the moment.
