Eric Bailly to depart United on a loan move to Roma

Manchester United center-back Eric Bailly is close to completing a loan move to Italian side AS Roma. Eric Bailly is the first player Mourinho signed during his stint at Manchester United. Now, he is looking to acquire the Ivory Coast player to help him challenge for acquiring a top-four finish in the league. The central defender will join Roma on a loan with a permanent clause of £7m. AC Milan had also expressed an interest in signing the player this summer

Bailly joined Manchester United in 2016 from Villareal for a fee of £30 million. Bailly had a good debut year with United, winning the man of the match award in his debut match for United. Moreover, he also won the player of the month award at Manchester United following in his fantastic debut month. He has shown flashes of his talent in the Manchester United shirt. However, he has not managed to stay consistent with these showings. The major cause of this is his injury problems which have made him lose game time in the last two seasons.

Fulham also interested in Bailly

Bailly has had a few suitors vying for him this season. The most prominent of them were AS Roma and recently promoted team, Fulham. However, Roma have now managed to strike a deal with United for a season-long loan move for Bailly. Now, according to Calciomercato, Eric Bailly is ‘one step away’ from making a move to Roma. Roma are confident that they will be able to sign Bailly in the next few days. This is a major blow to Fulham as they are scrambling to find reinforcements in the defense this year.

Roma on the other hand have had a great transfer window so far. They have managed to sign Matic on a free transfer. Moreover, they have also signed free agent Paulo Dybala from Juventus and Gini Wijnaldum from PSG this summer to further bolster their squad. Jose Mourinho is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Roma can crack a top-four finish this year.
