Manchester United faced a disappointing 3-1 loss to Aston Villa on the weekend. The goal scorers from Aston Villa were Leon Bailly, Lucas Digne, and Jacob Ramsey. Meanwhile, United’s only goal came through an own goal from Ramsey who deflected the shot from Luke Shaw.

United had one of their worst performance in recent weeks after the derby at Etihad. Red Devils defenders also had quite bad performances as they were punished by Villa’s attackers.

Even in attack, there was no creativity, or imagination in attack. Bruno Fernandez the player who provides Creativity in midfield couldn’t feature after he picked up a yellow against West Ham last week.

Overall it wasn’t a good day for United players, no one had a good performance for which they were severely Punished by the tactics of newly assigned manager Unai Emery.

Erik Ten Hag wasn’t happy with the tactic

United players seemed to become frustrated after conceding an early goal. They seemed to be lacking creativity and patience.

Most of the chances were putting in crosses for Ronaldo in the box. They were just trying to find Ronaldo in the box with crosses. None of them really connected well.

Erik Ten Hag labeled this practice as “stupid”.

The Athletic’s Carl Anka talked to him after the game, “Asked Ten Hag if the amount of crosses Manchester United attempted in the first half was a deliberate approach to feed Ronaldo.”

His response was: “No, that was stupid.”

Anka adds: “He then described his frustration at United players rushing the cross and not waiting for the right moment.”
