Manchester City have had a flying start to the new Premier League season, after winning all the games so far, beating Chelsea, Ipswich Town, West Ham United, and Brentford. The defending champions are at the top of the table, with 12 points in four matches. No other club in the league has won all four matches. Same as Manchester City, their star striker, Erling Haaland, has started the season with brilliant performances. The 24-year-old has already scored 9 goals in the Premier League in only four outings. He has already scored 2 hat-tricks, stacking up unbelievable numbers.
Haaland finished the last season with most goals (27) and won the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season in the Premier League. In his first season, Haaland scored 36 goals for City in the league and received the Golden Boot award. He was the Golden Boot winner all across Europe, scoring an astonishing 52 goals. This season is also no different for Erling Haaland as he already has 9 goals in his last 4 matches for Manchester City.
The Norwegian opened up his scoring tally in the first matchday itself, after scoring the first goal of the game against Chelsea, which helped secure the three points. In the next two games, Haaland scored back-to-back hat-tricks, against newly promoted side Ipswich Town, and West Ham United. After conceding the opening goal against Ipswich Town in the first 10 minutes of the match, City were able to come back thanks to the three goals by Erling Haaland and one goal scored by Kevin De Bruyne.
It was a similar story in the West Ham game, where Haaland’s treble secured all the points for the defending champions. City took the lead in the 10th minute of the game after Haaland gave the lead to the citizens. However, the Hammers made it 1-1 after Ruben Dias scored an own goal. From there onwards, it was all about Erling Haaland.
Haaland missed the chance of scoring a hat-trick in three consecutive matches
City went head-to-head against Brentford in the Premier League, after the West Ham game. Haaland scored a brace in the game and missed the chance to score hat-trick of hat-tricks. No player in the Premier League has ever scored 3 hat-tricks in a row. Haaland had the chance to make a new record for himself. However, the Norwegian forward missed the chance to score three consecutive hat-tricks. Although Haaland got some chances in the Brentford match to convert his brace into a hat-trick, the 24-year-old failed to capitalize on those chances.
The big test for Erling Haaland will be when City meet Arsenal on Sunday. The last time Haaland scored a goal against Arsenal was back in April 2023. Since then, these two sides have met three times but surprisingly, Haaland has not been on the scoresheet. This will be another interesting matchup between Arsenal’s defence and Erling Haaland. The 24-year-old will probably do his best to give City the best possible start in the match against Arsenal, but against Saliba and Gabriel, it will be kind of difficult for the striker to score, as it has been in the recent meetings.

It was a quiet night in Manchester as City failed to take home advantage as they drew against Inter Milan in the first match of the new Champions League campaign. Both the teams created a huge number of chances but failed to score even a single goal as the match finished 0-0. However, it was a defensive masterclass from City’s backline. After the match, City defender, Josko Gvardiol, talked about the defensive performance and said that they are looking to continue this form. Up next, City will resume their title defence in the Premier League against their biggest contenders in the last two seasons, Arsenal.
