Estevao, Santos & Chelsea’s Transfer Dilemma

However, Chelsea have spent £ 1.5 billion+ on new players, yet its squad still feels like a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces. No elite goalkeeper? Check. No dominant center-back? Check. No reliable striker to ease the burden on Nicolas Jackson? Another check. No wonder the fans protested and asked questions of the club’s decision-making. However, the transfer market has rarely been kind (or simply badly managed) and if Chelsea have answers already in their books then Estevao Willian and Andrey Santos constitute part of that.

Estevao: The Future of Chelsea’s Attack?

Estevao Willian is a name you most likely have never heard of. Estevao is one of the most exciting young attackers to have been acquired by Chelsea, dubbed ‘the Brazilian Messi’ (because every Brazilian wonderkid gets this label), that is.

He is already built as a star at Palmeiras at 17: a dribbler, craftsman, last-choice attacker. Although he won’t be joining until 2025, the club won’t be cashing in on his services to finance another spending spectacular first.

Santos: Chelsea’s Midfield Answer Already Exists

Neither Chelsea fans nor Santos are crying out for drama, and instead, the Brazilian is thriving quietly in France. The 20-year-old has been loaned to RC Strasbourg and has become one of the best young midfielders in Europe.

Most tackles in Ligue 1 by a midfielder from a single player
Seven league goals—the most by any midfielder
Excellent ball-winning and ball-retention skills
He is the ideal replacement for easing the load on Moises Caicedo, who is running more miles than a marathoner just to keep Chelsea’s midfield afloat. Why don’t they instead spend another £100 million acquiring a new player out of something they already possess?

A Recruitment Strategy or Just Chaos?

In fact, that’s what Chelsea’s recruitment strategy looks like – a foggy night at Stamford Bridge. They’ve spent too much early on on players to a premature age, without a strategy.

Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington? No impact.
Mike Penders? Still untested.
Romeo Lavia? Injured.
The parts are there, but as IKEA furniture without the manual—software without documentation.
