The Gunners’ young star, Ethan Nwaneri to keep the league title race alive this season.
Ethan Nwaneri: Arsenal’s rising talent
The Gunners have been unlucky with injuries this season. They have missed a lot of senior players in the middle of the campaign. Not to forget their poor winter transfer window business this year. They were confident in their squad and didn’t make any new signings in January. And now they have got themselves in a huge striker crisis.
In the game against Leicester City, Nwaneri was the one who pushed his team till Merino scored twice in their 2-0 win. He was trying to create chances to give his team some advantage at the King Power Stadium. All of the main stars like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz have been ruled out due to injury. The 17-year-old took upon himself to be creative and create something in the attacking third. So far he has been able to do that.
Arsenal need more out of Ethan Nwaneri
The north London side needs to get the best out of the youngster as quickly as possible. If they are to catch the league leaders Liverpool, they must get back to their best game. The injury crisis has been a big blow to their title charge. As a result, the teenager has been a regular starter for the first team. The manager, Mikel Arteta would have called him up surely to get his services into the first team.
The young winger seems to be in the right place at the right time for his growth. Arsenal has been known to create young, promising talents in their academy. The examples being latest academy graduate in Myles Lewis-Skelly. Bukayo Saka is also a homegrown talent. Ethan has got everything to become another great academy product and talented winger in the future.
He is great on the ball, he can attack from both right and left sides. His dribbling, passing and his ability to hold the ball in tight spaces is incredible. And he has already showed that he is playing to score goals. He has scored in the recent fixtures against Girona and Manchester City. It would be harsh to put a lot of pressure on these young shoulders to fight for titles. Although he has shown that he has the ability to do great things.
Arteta on Nwaneri
Mikel Arteta about Nwaneri: “The biggest thing is to push him and then when he is pushing you grab him from behind to make sure he is stable and protected. This talent you have to push him.
“Protection is necessary, keeping an eye on him, but he needs to see that he can go and fly and not cut his wings.
“I can talk about how good he is right now and the position he is at, at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, sums up really well the level he has. What happens in the future is going to depend on him and how much he wants it. At the moment he wants it a lot and he is surrounded by the right people.”
Author’s Opinion
Nwaneri is a exceptional talent and he is bound to achieve bigger things. He has the skillset, the abilities to become one of the best in the world. He still needs to learn a lot of things and he has that willingness to learn.
Mikel Arteta will surely try to get the very best out of him but he needs to protect him as well. Let’s see how much impact does he manages to have in the absence of the senior players.
