Euro 2024 host nation Germany has knocked out of the tournament by their long standing rival Spain in the quarterfinal by a score of 2-1 in the extra time in Stuttgart.
Dani Olmo is spanish player who plays for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga which is a german league, he opened the scoring sheet, scoring the first goal of the game early in the second half, converting a half chance into a goal and converting an assist from a pass from his 16 year old Lamine Yamal.
Germany tried very hard with the extreme attack and maintaining pressure on Spanish defence trying to break the defence and at the 89th minute with the assist of Joshua Kimmich, the german star Florian Wirtz scored a beautiful volly and equalized and the kept the Germany’s hope alive in the tournament.
Spain proved to be a better team than Germany
But the spanish attack proved that they better than the germans as in the extra time both teams were trying to score the goal and not letting the game to go into penalties, Germany had some pretty good chances but they were unable to score even when the Spain were 10 men down, but Spain proved to be the better side as in the 119 minute, the Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino converted Dani Olmo’s assist into a goal through a beautiful header. The goal decided the game and took Spain into the semi final in a hope that they can win the tournament for the fourth time.
It is second consecutive European Championships where Spain has reached the semifinals stage, their current team is looking strong and well established as they ended the Germany’s run at their home and knocked them out of the tournament.
Spain won this tournament three times in 1964, 2008 and 2012 and now they will face France in the semifinals as France have beaten Portugal on penalties in the quarterfinals in Hamburg.
Everything went right for Spain expect one thing within the 10 minutes 21 year old midfielder Pedri got tackled by Toni Kroos, but that tackle turned out to be a bad thing for the spanish midfield as he suffered a injury which forced him to retire from the tournament which means he is no longer available for Spain for at least one or two months, he was substituted by Dani Olmo, who plays for a Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
What really happened in the Quarterfinal
The first 20 minutes played in a very casual manner, where in Germany Kai Havertz found in action ealy on which some great chances but unable to finish them, he had very great chance where he got a long ball directly to him, he controlled the ball very nicely and took a shot from his right foot but he shot directly in the hands of Unai Simon.
After Olmo also got some chances, he too was unable to convert them into the goal, both team got almost the equal chances to score a goal in the first half but both teams were unable to score a goal. In the second hand Spain had the upper than on Germany where Spain had a lot of chances, the spanish captain Alvaro Morata also got a chance to score a goal, it was a golden opportunity but he was unable to convert it into a goal.
Dani Olmo was able convert his chance into a goal, a assist given by his 16 year old teammate. Germany did equalise in the 88th minute of the game but Spain ended the game by scoring again in the extra time and knocked Germany out of the tournament.
