Sean Dyche’s Everton wanted to sign 20-year old Yankuba Minteh from the Magpies. The youngster had a breakout season on loan at Feyenoord from Newcastle last season. He scored 10 goals and assisted 5 times in 27 appearances for the Dutch club. Eddie Howe does not want to sell him, but they must to avoid facing point deduction due to FFP rules. They agreed on a deal of £40m from Lyon but the youngster rejected the personal terms with the Ligue 1 giants Lyon. Minteh prefers to play in a Premier league outfit this season, ruling out possibilities of joining a club outside England. Newcastle wanted to sign striker Dominic Calvert Lewin in a swap deal with Minteh joining Everton. However, the Magpies pulled out from the deal due to concerns about Calvert Lewin’s injury record, and Everton are reluctant to match their valuation of £40m for the young lad.
Brighton snatch Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle amid Everton links
Brighton have offered Newcastle a deal of £33m plus add ons for Yankuba Minteh amid Everton links. According to the latest reports, the Magpies have accepted the Seagulls’ bid for the youngster. He will agree on personal terms with Brighton as he wants a Premier league move and the South coast club is the best destination to grow for a budding youngster. Minteh has flown from Gambia to the British coast for the routine medical ahead of the move. Brighton stayed in the race, despite his high £40m valuation. The 20-year old told Dutch football magazine Voetbal International on his future. He says;
“Ultimately, the Premier League is my goal. Newcastle United is the club that have a lot of confidence in me. I have no idea what the future looks like.”
Yankuba Minteh’s move to Brighton is crucial for Newcastle United, who must make a player sale by June to avoid breaching the league’s profit rules. The Magpies are also hearing offers for their star player Anthony Gordon to one of the big six clubs at a massive price. The striker was also wanted by Italian giants AS Roma as Daniel De Rossi is quite impressed by him. Pundits believe Brighton’s secured deal is quite expensive for an unproven player. It will be interesting to see if the youngster can adapt at the biggest stage where the cameras will be pointed towards him after such a big move. The Seagulls have a good record at handling unproven yet talented young footballers. We hope to see the same with Minteh. King speaking to Goodison news says;
“It seems like a lot of money for an unproven player. Newcastle are asking for a ridiculous amount of money for a 20-year-old.”
