According to Nice-Matin, Everton registered interest in OGC Nice centre back Jean-Clair Todibo. Other than them, numerous clubs across Europe are also in the race to secure his signature.

However, OGC Nice is trying their best to keep hold of their prized asset. Even if they decide to sell him, it won’t be cheap. Jean-Clair Todibo despite being 22 years of age, has heaps of on-pitch game time. He previously made appearances for Barcelona as well as Toulouse. He even represented France in the junior division, Under-20s.

The French news outlet via their print edition on Friday (15th July, Page: 46) reported that other than Everton, Newcastle United, AC Milan, Manchester United, Napoli and Sevilla are the interested parties to sign the young defender.

How did Everton target Todibo fare?

In the recently concluded campaign, Todibo made 40 apps in all competitions for OGC Nice. He played a key role for the side as they finished 5th in the Ligue 1 table and qualified for UEFA Conference League. Todibo also helped his team reach the Coupe de France finals. On their road to the finals, they managed to beat PSG and Olympique Marseille. But his side faced a defeat in the finals against Nantes.

With the addition of Todibo in Nice’s defence, they only conceded 36 goals in 38 Ligue 1 games. This made them the joint best defensive club along with PSG. In 2019, the news outlet Daily Mail described Todibo’s traits as follows, comparing him to Raphael Varane: “He is 6ft 2ins but he also has excellent spring and has good feet too.”

Other than that, he is also a very able header of the ball, winning duels ‘and is capable of scoring the occasional towering header’. Everton already solidified their defence with the addition of James Tarkowski. But Lampard believes there’s more space to reinforce and there’s where Todibo can join in. At this point, there’s no official bid that can solidify the Toffees’ interest.
