Dharmesh Sheth drops Harry Winks to Everton transfer update

Harry Winks has been heavily linked with a move to Everton this summer. Now, a reliable source has provided an update of the club’s progress regarding the player. In the latest episode of Sky Sports podcast Transfer Talk, journalist Dharmesh Sheth  has claimed that Everton are still looking to sign the midfielder from Tottenham. Sheth has said:

“They’re (Everton) also trying to sign Harry Winks from Tottenham. But the deal that they’re interested in is a loan with an option [to buy], so they don’t commit big sums of money. It could be a while, I think, before Everton are in that market again when they’re going for those big-name players for big sums of money.”

Everton’s transfer window

Due to Everton’s financial fair play limitations, the club has not managed to make a lot of high-profile signings. Everton have only signed James Tarkowski, on a free transfer. The center-back joined the Toffees from Burnley. Moreover, Everton have lost their star center forward Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspurs. Richarlison joined Tottenham on a £60m deal for five years.

Everton had to struggle to not get relegated last season. They survived relegation in the penultimate game of the last season’s Premier League campaign. The gaffer Frank Lampard will be desperate to not let a repeat of this happen this year. He will be looking to get fresh blood into the squad as soon as he can.

Midfield is the weakest chain in the team right now. Donny Van de Beek’s loan spell with the Toffees is set to expire this season. Fabian Delph’s contract is also going to expire this season. This means there is room for Harry Winks in the heart of the team at Goodison Park. He can earn much more game time here as compared to Tottenham. Moreover, his central and defensive style of play means he has the potential to become an important asset to the club.
