Ex Chelsea stars Mason Mount and Jorginho shared a light moment together after their pre-season friendly between Arsenal and Manchester United. The Gunners emerged victorious in full time by 2-1 but lost the penalty shootout by 4-3. Chelsea’s unsung heroes Mason Mount and Jorginho have anchored Chelsea’s midfield under Thomas Tuchel’s reign. Now both of them have left Stamford Bridge in a search for better future in their respective careers. Mount joined the Red devils last summer but has failed to live upto expectations. However, Jorginho has been very important for the Gunners last season replacing Granit Xhaka.
Chelsea fans have flooded Twitter sharing the picture of the Italian embracing the Englishman. The last time these two donned the Chelsea shirt, they were one of the most feared clubs in England under Tuchel. Jorginho won the UEFA player of the year award that year and finished in third place in the Balon d’or. Mount was also at his peak during that time, all Chelsea fans remember his line breaking pass to Havertz which sealed their fate in the Champions league. Mason was a must have player in Fantasy Premier League back then because of his prowess in front of goal and middle of the park. Ex teammates turned rivals still maintain their previous bond. It has brought a feeling of nostalgia among the fans.
Arsenal beat Manchester United in a pre-season friendly; Injury scare for youngster
Arsenal have finished runners up twice in a row in the league and aim to win the title this season. The Gunners faced the struggling Red devils in a pre-season friendly and defeated them 2-1 at fulltime. However, a penalty shootout was organised where the United emerged victorious 4-3. Arteta’s men weren’t convincing enough but managed to get the job done. Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli scored the decisive goals which cancelled Hojlund’s opener. Arsenal’s future looks bright as 17 year old Ethan Nwaneri produced a stellar display, providing one assist.
Meanwhile, United boss Erik Ten Hag handed Leny Yoro his unofficial debut but he had to be taken off after 35 minutes because of an unfortunate injury. Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund also suffered a hamstring injury. According to recent reports by MUTV, both the players have sustained minor injuries and reports will be out soon.
United fans are skeptical about this season and their performance in the friendly did not help the cause. New signings being injured in their very first friendly is not a good sign for the Red devils. Centre-back Johnny Evans was left disappointed after finding out about the injuries. He says;
“Obviously, you don’t want any injuries, especially in pre-season. You know one of the biggest things you’re trying to avoid while also getting fit at the same time. Injuries are hopefully not too bad, but we’ll see, probably see tomorrow, I’m sure.”
The Gunners announce new signing
Arsenal have announced the signing of defender Riccardo Caliafori from Bologna. The deal has reportedly cost the Gunners around £42m. He is one of the top prospects in football right now, he has joined the prefect club to improve his level. The Italian defender was key to Bologna’s stunning season last year under Thiago Motta. He helped the Italian side keep 17 cleansheets in Serie A. He is deployed as a centre-back and a left-back. Football fans have nicknamed him, “Maldini regen” because of his likeness to the legendary defender.
Arteta aims to strengthen his defence this season. Caliafori represented Italy in the Euros and his performances caught the eyes of Mikel Arteta. Timber is back from injury which is a brilliant news for Arsenal. The backline looks well sorted and secured for this season. Decent squad depth is necessary for the long season ahead. The fans are very excited about the youngster playing at the Emirates.
The next move expected from Arsenal is to sign a striker. Viktor Gyokeres is linked and is a top priority for the Spanish manager. Gabriel Jesus is inconsistent and someone more prolific is required to mount a resurgence against Manchester City dominance. It will not be easy, as the player is very expensive. The North Londoners must seal the personal terms with the player quickly as other European clubs are prowling.
