ARSENAL

“Exceptional player”: Pep Guardiola lauds the striker Arsenal are looking to pursue

Ivan toney

The rivalry between Arsenal fans and Pep Guardiola is not hidden from the world. However, one Arsenal target, Ivan Toney, is highly rated by Pep Guardiola. The Gunners, like many other clubs, signed nobody in the January transfer window. FFP regulations made it impossible for them, but they are expected to go big on a striker in the summer.

The Englishman is now back from his long-term ban for gambling charges. He scored on his first game back against Nottingham Forest and then against Tottenham Hotspur. Now, Brentford are ready to face the challenge of Manchester City and Toney will hope to find the net on third consecutive occasion. Moreover, Guardiola is also well aware about the quality of the striker. Speaking in a press conference before their clash against the Bees, he said –

“He’s an exceptional player, not just with long balls, (but) with keeping (the ball) and the set pieces, with the penalties he’s a guarantee, with the free kicks and many things… they can link with him.

He’s an extraordinary player. I’m happy he is back and hopefully, that period is forgotten in him, in his life, and his family, and exceptional players always are more than welcome in the Premier League.”

Toney has been a matter of speculations for some top clubs in the England like Arsenal and Chelsea. If it was not for the FFP, the Gunners must have got their proposal sent to the English international. However, their priority target was Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is a better player than Ivan Toney in terms of quality but is also hard to persuade. Osimhen should be number one on Mikel Arteta‘s wish list, but if Arsenal can’t get him, Toney should be the man they sign.
