Fabrizio Romano has praised Chelsea loaned star Ian Maatsen after his impressive start at Dortmund. Moreover, Fabrizio hints a long-term future for the Chelsea full-back. The Blues were unable to give much playing time to Maatsen during his time at the club. Now, the Italian journalist claims that his move to Germany can become a permanent one in future. Furthermore, Pochettino has a lot of options for that position in the squad as well. Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest piece in the Daily Briefing, Romano praised Dortmund’s smart work in the transfer market this January. The German side signed Maatsen as well as Jadon Sancho kn loan from Manchester United. A permanent transfer for Maatsen can be a fair business for all the parties.

Both Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen have started well for Borussia Dortmund since joining on loan – it looks like excellent work in the transfer market, really. Bringing in Sancho and Maatsen means smart business, they are ready to make an impact and have completely refreshed the squad.

With Chelsea and Maatsen, I think he was already close to leaving last summer because they trust other players in that position including Ben Chilwell, and Maatsen wanted to play on regular basis. There is the option for Dortmund to make the deal permanent, let’s see if they decide to take it.

Although fans at Stamford Bridge can be unhappy for Ian, it is a great opportunity for them to sell a home grown player. This will help them financially as well as make some room for new signings. They will be able to focus on recruiting some attacking options in which they lack quality at the moment.
