Faf Du Plessis to play for Perth Scorchers during the BBL 2022

Perth Scorchers have signed an impressive deal ahead of the Big Bash League. The Scorchers have signed former South African captain and dynamic opener Faf Du Plessis. He will be joining the reigning champions as the replacement import.

Faf is playing in place of the English batter Laurie Evans who had a brilliant season last year. The Englishman failed the doping test and hence parted ways with the Scorchers.

Missing Laurie Evans was a major blow for the Scorchers, but the replacement they found is like to like. The 38-year-old will be the player with the most experience on the Scorchers’ roster with 311 T20 matches. He represented his country 262 times (69 Tests, 143 ODIs, 50 T20Is) and served as a captain in 115 games (36 Tests, 39 ODIs, 40 T20Is).

Faf Sharing his thoughts

“I’m really excited to be signing with Perth Scorchers,”

Du Plessis said.

“I think the first thing that jumps to mind is that Perth is four-time champions, which is very impressive. Any player who plays around the world wants to win competitions, so it’s a great franchise to be part of.

“I’m also keen to come in and learn. I think it’s important to learn from other people and organizations and find out why they’re successful. I’m also excited to share my experiences and the things I’ve learned, and hopefully, that can be a great combination.

“Looking from afar, it looks like Optus is probably the quickest wicket in the world. Watching the World Cup, the bounce looked very, very steep. Obviously, the wickets in South Africa and Australia are quite similar with more pace and bounce than spin, so it is something I’ve grown up with and I’m looking forward to playing in Perth this summer.”

Du Plessis will be playing the first 7 matches of the tournament, starting on 17th December. Faf has other T20 commitments and thus would be missing the rest of the season.
