The 15th edition of IPL is all set to be a bigger affair this time with the entry of two new franchises. The RP-SG-owned Lucknow Team and CVC Capital Partners-owned Ahmedabad Team will be the new contenders for the title. Recently, the Lucknow franchise invited their fans to post their choices for the official team name.
For a new team, it is important to build a loyal fanbase. As we know, the crowds and the audience act as the 12th man on a cricket field. Their support and cheers boost a team’s morale even in the most perilous situations. It is for the first time, that the fans are given the right to name their side. This practice got well appreciated by netizens.
Flower to be the Head Coach, ex-KKR skipper as mentor
Previously, the RPSG group owned the Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL. It played for 2 seasons when CSK and RR were banned from the league. The multinational conglomerate will expect their franchise to repeat the success of RPS who were the finalists in their last season in 2017. The franchise has already made some crucial announcements related to its team management. Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower will be the Head Coach.
2 times IPL winning skipper Gautam Gambhir has been roped in as the mentor. Gambhir is probably one of the best brains in T20 cricket. His experience of the format and the IPL will surely enrich the side in its maiden campaign.
Former India cricketer Vijay Dahiya has been appointed as the assistant coach. Dahiya was a part of the coaching setup of KKR when Gambhir led the side to glory in 2012 and 2014.
Fans have taken up the task to name the Lucknow franchise as Twitter was flooded with hundreds of recommendations. The mega auctions are around the corner and all the 10 sides will be eager to get the best bids on cricket superstars.
