Harry Maguire

Ex-Manchester United icon Roy Keane was critical of Harry Maguire recently. He has said Harry Maguire’s presence on the pitch has his Manchester United teammates frightened.

Erik Ten Hag was given a reality check by Fulham at Old Trafford last week when they lost 2-1. Now, despite getting himself on the scoresheet, Maguire is on the radar of former midfielder. The 30-year-old centre-back played the full 90 minutes on the weekend almost clinched a point for his club. However, the Red Devils were unable to hold up their equilibrium as Alex Iwobi scored a late winner to upset the home fans.

Roy Keane slams Harry Maguire

The former Manchester United star believes that Maguire is the reason, United refrain itself from moving high. Speaking on Stick to Football podcast, he said

“I don’t want to pin it all on Maguire but there is always that worry with Maguire, with United coming up and squeezing the pitch like all the other top teams do. There’s that worry with him all the time. And I think they are frightened to death to come up because anything in behind he will be in trouble.”

Erik Ten Hag’s side went to the fixture with a good run of form. The Red Devils were unbeaten in their last four games before facing the Cottagers and closed the gap for the top four. However, with a victory for Aston Villa over the weekend, the gap to the Champions League spots has now widened to eight points.

Maguire has been used fairly heavily by Ten Hag this season – when fit – with injuries seeing the likes of Lisandro Martinez miss large periods of the season. Although it seems that the club will be deciding on the future of some of its stars in the summer. Regardless of the Champions League qualification, the squad will be assessed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, it does not has any effect on Roy Keane’s belief that Harry is causing troubles for his club.
