Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes was full of praise for summer signing Raphael Varane, stating that the defender will be “really important“.
He has hailed Raphael Varane as “a winner”, one who can help take Manchester United to the very top.
The Frenchman made the switch to Old Trafford for a fee of around £34,000,000. He makes the move after spending 10 years at Real Madrid.
Fernandes has been impressed with Varane’s immediate impact on the Red Devils. The Portuguese believe that his winning mentality will do wonders for the rest of the squad.
Fernandes commends Varane’s winning mentality
Raphael Varane will make his first Champions League start in a Red Devils jersey against Villarreal on Wednesday night.
The World Cup winner came off the bench during United’s 2-1 defeat away to Young Boys. However, he will be handed a start at Old Trafford against the Spanish outfit.
The French international has won 4 Champions League titles with Los Blancos. Fernandes feels that he can help take United’s players to a whole different level, with his drive and experience.
“Of course, he’s a winner,” says Fernandes. “Everyone knows that. He’s a nice guy and works really hard and is always pushing everyone to do better“.
The midfielder goes on to say, “Rapha has been brilliant. [He] is really important for us. In football, we all have different qualities, and Rapha has different qualities to Victor, Harry, Eric and Phil, but they can all add different things.”
“Still, he’s a little bit shy in some ways, because it’s the beginning for him at United….“. Fernandes feels that the Frenchman is a leader and help the Red Devils in that part of the game.
The media has been over Fernandes’ crucial penalty miss in United’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa. He will be looking for redemption when the Red Devils face Villarreal in the Champions League to silence his critics.
