Lionel Messi has been confirmed as the highest-rated player ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the upcoming FIFA 22 video game.

The Paris Saint-Germain star is the best player in this year’s edition of the popular franchise with a 93 overall rating. Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is the second-highest rated footballer in the game with a 92 overall rating. Manchester United man, and long-time rival of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo has to settle for third place with a 91 overall rating.

Barcelona did not have the best season last term, but Messi still managed to score 30 LaLiga goals and he set up another nine – only four players had more assists.

With Ronaldo having been surpassed by Robert Lewandowski, it is the first time he hasn’t been in the top two since FIFA 10.

PSG are set to have the strongest attacking lineup in terms of player rankings. In addition to Messi, team-mates Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are rated fifth and sixth, behind Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. Further, De Bruyne’s rating of 91 makes him the highest-rated Premier League footballer on the game, alongside Ronaldo.

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland did not make the top 10 of the FIFA player ratings this season. Meanwhile, England captain and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is rated 90 and finishes eighth in the FIFA 22 ratings. Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak (91) is the top goalkeeper for the latest edition. The top 11 of this season’s FIFA 22 rankings also feature N’Golo Kante (90), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (90) and Manuel Neuer (90).

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are two notable downgrades following a poor season for Liverpool.
