Manchester City clashed with Slovan Bratislava in their Champions League fixture on Wednesday. The game concluded with a 4-0 victory for City. Phil Foden added to the scorecard, helping his club secure a dominant win in the important fixture.
Manchester City took complete control of the game from the very start. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 8th minute and Phil Foden followed right behind with a goal in the 15th minute. Erling Haaland found the back of the net in the 41st minute. James McAtee scored his first goal for the club in the 74th minute and sealed their win. City also managed to keep a clean sheet and cruised to victory.
Despite seeing six changes from the previous squad at Newcastle United last Saturday, the squad was ready to fire from the first whistle. Having drawn 0-0 with Inter Milan in the previous Champions League fixture, this match was once again a demonstration of their superiority in Europe.
Slovan Bratislava, on the other hand, had to endure another tough night. After their 5-1 defeat against Celtic in the previous fixture, Pep Guardiola’s tactical masterclass was a serious blow to their hopes of advancing further in the Champions League.
Foden’s Performance for City
Phil Foden shone in the game, netting a goal in the 15th minute. He also received the Player of the Match Award for his performance. After suffering from an illness at the start of the season that affected his performance, he is now slowly getting back to his usual form. Although this was not his best performance, Foden’s game definitely came at a good time for City. With several key players like De Bruyne and Rodri out due to injury, City will be looking forward to having Foden back in his best shape.
According to News Central, Phil Foden is certainly very happy with his performance. He believes that he had several more chances to score that he would have made on a different night, but coming back from his illness, he was delighted to have contributed to the win. Foden is aware of his rustiness but is working on his game and looking to get better.
Foden’s goal, a trademark curled finish into the bottom corner, was not his only chance at the score sheet. Slovan goalkeeper did well to deny him on a low shot by turning it to the post. Jeremy Doku also hit the crossbar as City relentlessly continued their attack. Foden also managed to assist McAtee beautifully in his first senior goal for Manchester City.
Foden would be looking to make a serious comeback for his club in the upcoming fixtures. The 2023 Champions League winners will be looking to keep up their great performance in the next fixture against Sparta Praha to continue in the league.
