Former Chelsea captain scores against future Liverpool goalkeeper

Former Chelsea captain, Conor Gallagher, scored his first goal for Atletico Madrid and expressed his opinion about the moment. He said that he feels more wanted and appreciated at his new club. In other words, he was trying to express his current situation and how is it different from what he experienced at Chelsea.

Conor Gallagher has hit the ground running at Atletico Madrid. Recently, he scored the opening goal against Valencia in a La Liga match. Rodrigo De Paul provided a beautiful pass inside the Valencia penalty box, and Gallagher received the ball with his magical left foot. At the end, he slotted it beautifully past the goalkeeper. Future Liverpool goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, was left astounded by this goal.

Last season, Gallagher took the captaincy role at Chelsea and led them towards a better season. On the other hand, Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia on a permanent deal. According to the contract, the Georgian goalkeeper will join the Reds at the end of this season.

According to Express, the former Chelsea and English midfielder said that he has taken a big step in his career by joining Atletico because he can compete for trophies like the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, the UEFA Super Cup, and many more important trophies. Gallagher added that he was waiting for this opportunity, and he is getting more confident in terms of scoring goals and making progressive passes.

Conor Gallagher’s Atletico Transfer Saga

The English midfielder left Chelsea because the club failed to assure him a long-term future. In other words, the Blues didn’t offer him a long-term contract. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid were lurking in behind. The Spanish giants grabbed this opportunity and tied him up with a lucrative deal and contract.

Diego Simeone wanted Gallagher because of his work rate and playing style, which perfectly aligns with Simeone’s philosophy. Therefore, Atletico and Chelsea did a swap deal, where the Blues brought in Joao Felix in exchange of Conor Gallagher, who joined the Los Colchoneros . This swap deal lowered the asking price for Felix. That is why it was a smart piece of business from the Blues.

Other Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspurs, and Newcastle United were also interested in signing Conor Gallagher, but both the clubs failed to match Chelsea’s asking price for the player.

Gallagher’s recent performances

There is absolutely no doubt that Gallagher was an important player for the Blues as well. In a recent interview, he said that he had no disagreements with the new Chelsea coach, Enzo Maresca. On top of that, he insisted that he wouldn’t have faced any problems in adapting to Enzo Maresca’s system.

However, the English midfielder is enjoying his life in the capital of Spain. He has played almost every single match for Atletico Madrid so far. On Thursday night, he got an opportunity to shine against RB Leipzig in Atletico’s first Champions League of the season. Although he didn’t score nor provided an assist, the Englishman was involved in some key moments in the second half of the match.

After the match against Valencia, Diego Simeone was impressed with Gallagher’s performance. The Argentine manager said that his team always needed a player like Conor because he makes them better. On top of that, the English midfielder brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm on to the pitch. We all know that Gallagher loves to give his all on the pitch. Simeone likes such players who express their incredible passion for the game and have sheer determination.

Everyone has witnessed recently that English players are making a move to La Liga and snatching away the limelight from others. Recently, everyone witnessed the meteoric rise of English midfielder, Jude Bellingham. The same thing might happen for Gallagher as well, who also possesses incredible talent like his England teammate, Bellingham.
