Former Everton Chief labels Chelsea as a “mess”

Former Everton chief, Keith Wyness, recently called Chelsea “a mess”. The Scottish was recently appointed as the CEO of Aston Villa football club. Prior to that, he was the he was the chief of Everton Football Club. Recently he remarked the Chelsea football club as a “mess”, because of the current scenario that the club is facing in recent times.

No club has spent more money than Chelsea in this summer transfer window. Spending around £250m this summer, the Blues signed 12 new players and most of them are under the age limit of 21. Since the takeover of the Chelsea football club in 2022, BlueCo transformed the transfer strategy for Chelsea. Rather than spending more money on high-profile players, the Blues focus more on signing young talents. However, this strategy leads to huge numbers of signings which makes a messy situation in a squad.

Reasons for Keith’s comments

Everton Chief Keith Wyness branded the Blues as ” a mess”, maybe not because of the transfer strategy but for all the problems that the Blues are facing right now. Wyness in the latest podcast of Football Insider, talked about the various problems the Club is tackling.

Keith Wyness said,

“Stability is always key for football clubs. That’s from owners and chief executives, you need to give the manager some stability in the background. “It let’s them keep focused on the coaching. Tom Glick was the first chief at Chelsea under Boehly, I know him from his Derby days. He only lasted a short time, and now we’ve got another upheaval on the boardroom side. It’s just a mess, and they don’t realise it.

First of all, Chelsea chief executive, Chris Jurasek, left the Blues last week, after just one year into his role at the club. The Blues appointed Jurasek for the position at the end of the last season, as a part of the new management operations. After Tom Glick left the role last year, Jurasek was brought in to replace him as the next Chief executive of Chelsea.

Another big news is coming out related to the ownership of the Blues. There is a “civil war” going on at Chelsea, with Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly both trying to purchase the club in full and take the sole control of the club. In May 2022, the partnership of Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly acquired Chelsea for nearly £4.25 billion. Now, the partnership is on the verge of breaking, as both parties are trying to take complete control. All these matters could affect the club a lot, both on and off the pitch.

Chelsea are back on winning track as they narrowly beat Bournemouth yesterday in the Premier League. Christopher Nkunku’s only goal made the difference between these two sides, with the Blues walking away with all 3 points. The Frenchman scored in the 86th minute to break the Blues’ long wait for a win since 25th August.

Although the Blues dominated the game, keeping more possession, Bournemouth created more chances and had more shots. Despite having less number of shots, the Blues scored the only goal in the game and secured all the three points. After this, Enzo Maresca’s men will face West Ham United in their next Premier League game, followed by Barrow in the Carabao Cup 3rd round.
