Former Premier League coach Jose Mourinho has been sacked by his club AS Roma with immediate effect

Former Premier League manager Jose Mourinho has been fired by AS Roma recently. Mourinho took the charge of Roma a few seasons ago. Though, it was under his tactical leadership that the Italian club won their first European silverware, the Conference League. Moreover, he is also the first manager to win all three major European club championships. He won the Champions League with Inter Milan and FC Porto, Europa League with Manchester United and Conference League with Roma.

In an official club statement released today, the club confirms his departure with immediate effect. The club wrote,

AS Roma can confirm that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect. Mourinho was unveiled as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021. He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season.

We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club. We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma. However, we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

The Portuguese was appointed as the manager back in 2021 by the Italian club. He enjoyed a successful spell at the club in terms of their performance in European competitions. Besides winning Conference League, he guided them to a Europa final last year only losing to Sevilla. Though, the current season is a horrendous one for the Roman fans. The club stands ninth in the league and lost three out of their last five games.
