Frenkie de Jong Given Two Choices As Transfer Looms

Frenkie de Jong has been at the centre of a long transfer saga this summer. The Dutchman is Manchester United’s top target of the window. His former boss Erik Ten Hag believes that de Jong is the answer to the Red Devils’ problems in midfield.

However, de Jong is not interested in a move. He has time and again stated his love for FC Barcelona, and is not intrigued by the United project. But on the other hand, the Catalan club want him to depart because of their financial situation. They have reached an agreement with Manchester United, but the player has not given his approval.

The Blaugrana are in a lot of debt and want to get the Dutch international’s wages off the books. But there is another problem. Barcelona have already deferred de Jong’s wages previously, and owe him around 17 million Euros. This has made the transfer even more complicated.

ARA has now revealed that Barcelona have offered de Jong two options.

The Two Choices For de Jong

It has become a hot subject among fans that Xavi has used de Jong as a centre-back in preseason friendlies. However, the manager downplayed it and emphasized that the player possesses the necessary skills to contribute in that position.

But according to the article, the club is playing him in an unfamiliar role as a tactic to get him to change his mind about staying with them.

His other option would be to take another significant wage cut. He has been hesitant to do it up until now, but it is necessary so that new players can be paid.

Frenkie de Jong is receiving less than ideal treatment, which may ultimately result in his exit from Spain this summer. It is quite sad to see him being forced out, given his talent and commitment to the club
