From Zero to Hero: Klopp Lauds £3.5m Liverpool Gem for Stunning FA Cup Show

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp boasts about his £3.5m defender Joe Gomez for his ‘incredible’ performance in the FA Cup. The Reds are in the quarter-final of the competition after beating Southampton 3-0 on Wednesday.

The Reds were given a scare early on as Southampton caused real problems, but Lewis Koumas found the opener with a dream first senior goal. Moreover, substitute Jayden Danns scored a brace to seal a 3-0 victory for his side. Despite all these efforts from the young prodigies, it was the England international who caught the eyes of German the most.

Jurgen Klopp raves on the versatility of Joe Gomez

Liverpool fans were a little confused then the starting lineup dropped on Wednesday evening. Some thought Conor Bradley will start wide alongwith Bobby Clark and McConnell. However, it was Joe Gomez who was in the defensive midfielder role. The former Charlton Athletic man has been utilised in every position in the backline this season. However, the no.6 role was something that was even a debut for him as well.

“Ryan is out for a weeks and Wataru cannot play, so Joe Gomez had to play six today, never played that before in his life, as far as I know, as an adult at least. He had an incredible game.

He saved our backside this year already 15, 20 times, playing left back in a way which I didn’t see a lot of players playing, now playing six is absolutely outstanding – with two kids in front of him. They had not the greatest timing of all-time, so there was a lot of space to cover – that was exceptional.”

It was until the previous campaign everyone thought that the defender’s time at Merseyside is over. Though, he has really pulled out a memorable comeback with his versatility for the Reds. Every club will hope to have a player like him who can be deployed anywhere with such a great versatility.
