Future of Mick Schumacher decided after the Mexican GP?

Mick Schumacher Germany

Mick Schumacher had an uneventful race at the 2022 Mexican GP after a heartbreaking qualifying.

The future of Mick Schumacher is rumored to have concluded following the Mexican GP. The current Haas driver is yet to secure a seat for the 2023 season.

Schumacher was looking strong in Mexico after giving a wonderful lap in Q1. However, the lap was disqualified as the German was found breaking the track limits. This ultimately led to Schumacher failing to get past even Q1.

When questioned about what Team boss Guenther Steiner said over the incident, Schumacher explained:

“He saw that I was fast and he said that it was a shame.”

Ralf Schumacher – uncle of Mick Schumacher said this while talking to Sky Deutschland:

“I have to agree with Mick that he has the pace.

“But such mistakes actually shouldn’t happen. It happened even to Hamilton, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. It’s a learning process but he has to be learning quickly.

“He was in a different world compared to his teammate, but that alone makes it more difficult for the team to make a decision,”

Schumacher added.

“The team is relying on him, especially with his pace.”

Hulkenberg coming in for Schumacher?

News around Nico Hulkenberg returning to Formula 1 has been trending for quite a while now. The German is rumored to be coming in for Mick Schumacher in Haas.

Antonio Giovinazzi was ruled out of a return to the sport. The Italian will be driving in World Endurance Championship representing Ferrari.

A deal announcement is around the corner according to team boss Guenther Steiner:

“We will get to a decision – hopefully soon,”

Steiner said in Mexico.

“But nothing is decided 100 percent yet.

“We are just going through the last details of what we have to sort out, and then we will make a decision. This is an important decision for the team, and there is enough to focus on to get better.”

More rumors about Haas moving away from Ferrari are also swirling. The American outfit has suffered a lot with engine reliability this year and might be considering the move:

“It should be ok now with the new power units that are coming in, and hopefully for next year it is resolved because we had quite a few issues this year,”

said Steiner.

“It is not completely out of our hands because we can go somewhere else, but that is maybe a worse decision for us. There are always pros and cons to everything.”

Haas is moving in a positive direction given the team bagged a new title sponsor for the upcoming season.
