Gambhir to mentor the Lucknow franchise in IPL 2022

Two times IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir will be a part of the think tank of the new Lucknow franchise as their mentor. Former KKR southpaw known for his aggressive nature on the field will be a key member of the Lucknow camp considering his immense experience in IPL and the T20 format. The Lucknow side will be coached by Zimbabwe veteran Andy Flower.

Challenge ahead of IPL 2022

Gambhir presently the East Delhi MP, was part of India’s WT20 and WC winning squads of 2007 and 2011 respectively. In both the tournaments, he scored the individual highest score by an Indian batter in the finals. He played for Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural edition of the IPL. After the 2nd mega auction, he was bought by the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise Eden Gardens. Gambhir a man of action, led the team to glory twice, in 2012 and 2014. He built the necessary character in his men which the team previously lacked. He featured in IPL for the last time in the jersey of Delhi Daredevils once again when he decided to step down as the captain mid-season.

With a new franchise on the block, it will be a tough task for Flower and Gambhir to build a squad that will have experience, youth, and the potential to excel in the most difficult situations of the game. Sanjeev Goenka’s RPSG group had previously owned a team in the IPL called the Rising Pune Supergiants.RPS alongside Gujrat Lions played for 2 seasons replacing CSK and RR who were banned on charges of betting and spot-fixing.RPS in their final season ended up as runners-up as they lost to the MI by a narrow margin of only a single run.

The Lucknow side alongside the Ahmedabad franchise are new entrants of the marquee league and will definitely aim to be off to a flying start in their debut campaign. Reports suggest that the RPSG group-owned franchise is going all out to have Indian star batter, KL Rahul, as their captain.
