At least the 2022 season was a great story of triumph for George Russell. The Mercedes team and car struggled to match the pace of front-runners for most of the season. Regardless, Russell had a considerably good first year with the Silver Arrows.

Russell outscored his teammate Lewis Hamilton scoring 275 points signing off the season in P4. The 24-year-old also managed to score the only win of Mercedes this season in Brazil.

Russell earned the nickname of Mr. Consistency for his consistent points-scoring finishes for the team.

Russell defines his experience as a teammate of Hamilton

George Russell joined forces with Lewis Hamilton this year. Despite the pressure of racing with such a celebrated driver on the grid, Russell coped well – there is no doubt about that. The Briton managed to outscore the 7-times world champion!

Russell reflected on his first full year with Hamilton as his teammate:

“I feel very fortunate to be in this team, teammates with Lewis, learning a huge amount, being pushed to my limits,”

Russell told on a podcast after the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“It’s not easy being teammates with somebody as fast and great as he is. But it has been a great year in many regards.

“What we all do, every single person in this paddock, we are so fortunate to travel the world, us driving the fastest cars in the world around the best tracks in the world.

“I’m knackered now, but still, there’s a lot to look back and be happy about.”

Mercedes seemed to be catching the front runners by the end of the 2022 season with Russell taking a win and Hamilton the P2 in Brazil. Can the Silver Arrows again pose a title challenge in 2023?
