What really hapened?

Julian Nagelsmaan’s Germany have started the competition with full confidence. In the first game they defeated Scotland by 6 goals. They also finished the group stage in first position of group A. From group A Germany and Denmark qualified for the round of 16 and they had a match against each other at the Signal Iduna park. According to Sky Sports after few minutes of the game, match referee Michael Oliver postponed the match because there was a massive thunder storm. Eventually the storm settled down and the match started.

Although German defender Nico Shlotterback scored a header for his national team, but it was disallowed because VAR saw that Joshua Kimmich hindered a Denmark player and helped his teammate to score from the corner. If the young defender would have scored that opening goal, it would have been a memorable one. The reason is Signal Iduna park is the stadium where he plays all the home games for Borussia Dortmund. But Kai Havertz scored the first goal for Die Manschaft. Michael Oliver awarded a penalty to Germany because German left back David Raum made a cross inside opponent’s box and the ball touched the hand of Dennish defender Joachim Andersen.

The defender also scored a goal for Denmark but VAR cancelled the goal. In that game luck was completely against him because Denmark conceded a penalty for his handball.

Later German gem Jamaal Musiala scored a clear cut chance from swift counter attack.

Germany’s performance

Although the hosting nation started the game in a slow manner, but as the game progressed they grew into the game. In terms of defending, pressing and scoring goals the players gave everything on the pitch. One player stood out in the German backline. That is Antonio Rudiger. His defending was rock solid. He was so good in predicting opponent’s move that rarely anyone dodged him with the ball. His partner Schlotterback also displayed a masterclass defending performance. Both of them form a strong backline.

Few years ago Germany national team were struggling to qualify the group stage. But now Julian Nagelsmaan has build such a squad that possess the ability to lift the trophy.

At this moment the whole German squad is looking sharp and flexible. With the width of Florian Wirtz and the flair of Jamaal Musiala they can break any defensive line in few minutes.
