Graham Potter to work on new formation in training for Chelsea

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea manager Graham Potter is working on back-four formation in training. So far Potter has kept his options open for his system to use for Blues. He has been focusing on back five more, injuries picked up by key members of the defence might be the reason to do so.

Chelsea’s full-backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James both picked up an injury that ruled them out for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Blues summer signing Wesly Fofana has also picked up an injury which suited for back four formation.

Potter trying back four formation

According to tto Phillips, Potter has been working behind the scenes on back four formation with the responses being positive.

He said:

“Graham Potter so far, is rather doing the same, mostly using a back three. But the signs are there, we have seen him using back four variations of late. And I am told that is what he and the club are moving for going forward. They want the back four to become their ‘go to’ and more regular formation.

“Potter is already training back four variations, just as Tuchel did, and there is a lot of positivity around this setup.”

With fewer attacking options, Potter’s new formation of the back could help to increase the tally of goals that the club really needs.
