Guenther Steiner agrees with Schumacher’s young drivers ruling

Guenther Steiner

Haas boss Guenther Steiner has agreed with Mick Schumacher’s viewpoints on the young drivers in F1.

Reaching Formula 1 is the ultimate goal for many young drivers. However, reaching F1 is one thing, and staying in F1 is another. The competition to reach the top step of motorsports glory is already really high and staying in the competition is more challenging. If you are a young driver with enough caliber, you need to show the caliber quickly or it won’t take time for the tide to turn.

One can argue something similar happened with 23-year-old Mick Schumacher. The Haas driver was sacked even after having his personal best year with the team.

The German driver was replaced by compatriot Nico Hulkenberg and it is clear that experience was a major reason for the switch. Hulkenberg will mark his return as a full-time driver on the grid. Hulkenberg carries a lot more experience in comparison to Schumacher.

Schumacher expresses his concern for young drivers – “it takes time”

Mick Schumacher believes that young drivers don’t get enough time to grow in Formula 1. Schumacher said:

“Of course, I don’t know how other young drivers have been treated,”

he said.

“And can only speak from my own experience. It takes time.”

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner agrees with him on this:

“I think he’s right,”

Steiner said of Schumacher’s claim.

“I mean in racing two years is pretty good time but there is nothing before.”

“You jump straight from F2 to F1, the competition, because there is no testing.”

“I fully agree and as you can see, we reverted back to get the experience a driver which wasn’t in the car since three years, or not full time, call it like this, in a car.”

Formula 1 is an ever-changing sport in every term. Whether it be regulations, drivers, or teams, it is a fast-paced sport. Only those who are capable of keeping up with the pace of this sport will survive.
